My Students

I teach 3rd-grade students each year in Orlando, Florida. My school is Title I, meaning that most of our students are considered to be low-income. Typically I have many students who are learning English as their second language and who start the year below grade level. Many of our students and families want to do more but can use additional resources to help students be successful.

My students are excited to learn, grow, and be challenged every day.

It is my goal to give them the skills not only to be successful in school but to be lifelong learners and problem-solvers.

My Project

Currently, my students continue to wear masks at school to keep help keep us healthy and safe. I would look around my room and see students' noses and mouths because their masks didn't fit right. My school hands out small ones that are better for kindergarten or adult masks that fall off their faces. Tying the straps helps them fit but often makes the kids' ears sore.

Ill-fitting masks do little to keep us healthy and safe.

Earlier in the year, I did a similar project. Each week I have let the kids select a mask. The mask I have selected are sized for older kids so they will fit students better. They also have adjustable straps to help students size the masks to fit their faces. The students love having a fun choice each week and it helps build a community of safe and healthy classmates. Please help me continue to provide my students with masks.
