This year, we are switching to new teaching standards in math. The Common Core standards (which are standards nation-wide) will be a big change for teachers and students. My students need math manipulatives that will help them learn these new standards.
My 2nd grade students live in an area near central Ohio.
We are a moderate poverty school, with many students receiving free and reduced lunches. Our school encourages leadership both in the classroom and outside of school. My students are both hard-working and fun!
My Project
These math manipulatives will enable my students to practice math in a fun and interactive way. These items can be used for whole group instruction or for small group instruction with my struggling students. Being able to manipulate and move coins, for example, will greatly help them with learning to identify coins and count money. The dice will be a fun way for my students to quickly practice their math facts. Double-sided counters will help my students with counting and place value skills. These manipulatives will help my students develop a love for math!
Being able to provide my student with hands-on tools in math will greatly impact their understanding of the skills I'm teaching.
It will not only help them educationally, but will also be fun!
