Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students are from a community and school with limited resources. The music program has no budget, and yet we get through the year with donations. Many of my students rehearse almost every day, after school, to supplement the time they may have during class. Students prefer to stay in the music room before class, during lunch, and late after school.
My students are a mixture of 9th through 12th graders who are eager learners and members of the piano class in our school's music program.
My Project
The new keyboards will help me provide equity between my students in my classroom. Through a generous donation, the school now has a new keyboard lab and is able to offer a piano class. The school runs a block schedule where I see my students every other day. Practicing at home is crucial in order to advance in the class. Some students are able to afford to have a keyboard at home to practice. Some student families barely have enough for the bare necessities.
With these new keyboards, more students will be able to have the same opportunity as other students to practice at home.
The possibility of falling behind in class because of the lack of home practice will be eliminated.
