I'm convinced: Ninth grade is the last chance to get students hooked on reading.
Last year, I unveiled The 1,000,000 Word Challenge, where students read 20-30 books on their own.
This project left my students transformed. Reading became a way for my students to find themselves and to liberate themselves from the challenges they faced.
The 1,000,000 Word Challenge was such a success that it has become an integral part of every class I teach.
My Project
The challenge is to keep building my classroom library. The most crucial part of the project is connecting individual students with individual books.
That's why I'm asking for your help. I've gotten to know my most reluctant readers, and I'm pretty certain they will enjoy the books on this list.
Please consider donating to this project.
The more I teach, the more I realize the importance of reading. Reading truly is a journey of discovery as well as of liberation, and all students deserve to go down that path.
