My students attend an inter-district magnet school in the capitol region of Connecticut. They come from many different towns in the area and represent a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. More than half of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our program uses a transdisciplinary approach to help students become internationally minded global citizens. In our music room we learn how to express ourselves through singing, dancing, playing and moving to songs and pieces of music from around the world!
The donations from this project will help my students play and create melodies and harmonies for folk songs and singing games.
With enough instruments to go around, more students will have the opportunity to play, and we will have the unique opportunity to work as an ensemble. Playing instruments together is an invaluable experience that helps students learn to listen to each other, work together, and create something beautiful. It is a creative outlet like no other, and the music classroom can be a true refuge and safe space for all students.
