My Students
We are in a district with a uniquely diverse student population. In recent years, many Bhutanese and Nepali natives have joined our school family. No matter their cultural background though, all of my students come to school ready to learn!
My students enjoy hands-on, active, and engaging projects/activities that challenge them to think outside the box.
I hope to be able to improve student engagement and motivation by providing more of these unique learning opportunities.
Our school has challenged us this year to provide the students opportunities for demonstrating their learning through 'voice and choice'. They get to choose between different learning activities.
This will motivate students and create an environment of respect and rapport between teacher and student.
My Project
I am asking for a Flex-Space Independent Floor Work Space Bundle and two extra lap desks for my fifth-grade classroom. The supplies I am requesting will be used as flexible seating. Currently, students work in traditional desks and in regular chairs in my classroom. During independent work time, my students will have the chance to choose their location in the classroom. Having students feel comfortable while they work will motivate them.
Giving students voice and choice to determine their own space and work area will give them confidence for the middle school.
It also allows them to make good choices of where they sit and who they sit by.
