More Environmental Science Research in Our Backyard
My students need 2 short-focal length camera traps to conduct urban fauna population studies on our campus.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Arsenie's classroom raised $726

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are natural born scientists and explorers. They just don't know it yet! They are inquisitive, they want to learn, they're analytical, they crave new learning experiences, want to search for meaning and truth, share their own stories and become agents of change to make the world a more verdant place. And it is my job to facilitate and give them access to the knowledge and the skills they need to get the answers and purpose they seek. We, like many public schools, struggle with purchasing new supplies, especially technology, and we must then rely on your generosity to fill in the financial and ultimately learning gaps that allow us to get the technology, experiences and opportunities our students need to grow into passionate academics and global citizens.
My Project
Students often find that bona fide, authentic scientific research is something that is not attainable in high school studies of environmental science. We often read journal articles or publications that describe amazing experimental design set-ups and exotic locations, yet scientific research possibilities knock on our door right here on our urban campus, where there are plenty of animals to track, identify and study.
We recently partnered with a local zoo to participate in a long-term study of tracking urban wild life on our campus.
These two cameras that have the ability to photograph close-up, macro subjects, will join the arsenal of already funded cams that we have been using on campus- and will add to our available tools that would allow the students to hypothesize, place and evaluate migratory patterns, species density and population counts of various urban animals that call our backyard their temporary (or permanent) home.
Students are excited to use technology in innovative ways, to design and explore science and scientific research in their high school classrooms as they prepare to embark for a future of academic work at a higher degree institution. Having this tech to galvanize that process would allow them to access and practice research skills needed to make them true scientists.
