My Students
Our school ranges from K-6th grade and has approximately 250-300 students. We are a Title I, Gold Ribbon, and Lighthouse School. Many of our students come from a variety of economic background. Approximately 69% are socioeconomically disadvantaged. My students are motivated and curious learners who work hard and follow the school's Mission Statement: "Learn, Love, Lead." My students are thrilled and motivated to be in Kindergarten at our school!
We are also a Leader in Me School in which students live the 7 Habits.
This program promotes students to have positive relationships with their peers, adults, and family. As 21st century learners, the 7 habits will strengthen their leadership skills and prepare them for the future. I have a group of Kindergarteners who are curious and excited to learn these habits.
My Project
My students have started the year with 3 Osmo kits and 5 iPads. My goal is to eventually have 1:1 ratio for technology per student. My students have really enjoyed the Osmo kits. We do academy at our school (small groups) and the Osmo Words are beneficial for students' phonics/phonemic awareness. With 3 Osmo kits, the students would have to share and I would like to have the students use one kit on their own. My students have really enjoyed using the Osmo numbers and tangrams and at times, there isn't enough for the whole class to use so they would have to wait, or take turns. As a result of the Osmo kits, I have seen it built spatial awareness, problem solving skills, spelling skills, and much more.
With the new NGSS and Engineering Practices, the Engineering materials would allow for my students to explore how real-life objects can be built and apply those practices.
I would like my class to have an Engineering Center where students can look at how real-life objects are created and design something similar using the same elements. My students would learn from hands-on manipulatives that will allow them to design, build, explore, and engineer.
More than half of students from low‑income households
