I am a second grade Special Education teacher. My school is a Title I school and the majority of our students receive free lunch.
Dry-erase markers are used in my classroom on a daily basis.
My students use dry-erase markers on individual slates to practice their addition and subtraction facts and the spelling of their weekly words. These markers are a great teaching tool. Because mistakes can easily be erased, my students are more willing to take educational risks, much more so than with paper and pencils. With each educational risk my students take, the stronger readers, writers, and mathematicians they become. Practice makes perfect, right?
My Project
I also use dry-erase markers on my teaching "write and wipe" easel. With these markers, I am able to create diagrams, explain new content, and demonstrate problem solving techniques quickly and easily to my students.
Unfortunately due to budget cuts, we are running very low on dry-erase markers this year. Because of constant use, we throw out one or two dry-erase markers a day that have dried out.
I am requesting 10 packs of multi-colored dry erase markers and two erasers with refill pads.
With these supplies we can continue to use dry-erase slates and markers daily to practice our reading, writing, and math skills.
Your donation will encourage my second grade students with disabilities to take educational risks and promote a "practice makes perfect" attitude.
