My students need liquid watercolors, metallic paints, tempera cakes and brushes in order to explore new mediums. They also need aprons to feel like real artists!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I want my students to feel like true artists while they are in my class by wearing aprons and being able to experiment and problem solve with a variety of media.
I currently teach at a title 1 elementary school with a high percentage of children from low-income families.
My classroom is flourishing with talented, enthusiastic, and bright students. Some of my students are not English speakers and as a result find a way to communicate and express themselves in a different way through their art.
My Project
I want to provide students with the proper materials to fully be able to express themselves beyond paper, pencils and crayons. I want my students to feel the magic of the arts by experimenting with a variety of media and creating with liquid watercolors, metallic colors, tempera cakes, brushes and sharpies... all while wearing an apron to protect their clothing so they can experience what it is to be an artist! Although I am currently grateful for the basic supplies available in my class, I strongly believe that with your help, I can provide a wider range of experiences to my students with a variety of materials.
It is my hope that by providing my students with the necessary tools, they will be able to experience art from a different perspective and perhaps spark that life long love and passion for the arts that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
