My students are 10th graders in a high needs school in New York. My class is Humanities, a combination of English and Social Studies, incorporating both into a comprehensive curriculum. Many of my students are the first in their families to graduate from high school and attend college.
We need lots of new books for our classroom library but due to numerous budget cuts, our school doesn't have any money to purchase new books. My students want to continue reading but need new and exciting books to do so.
Practicing reading skills through independent reading is very important to becoming a good reader as well as developing a life-long love for reading. My students need these skills to succeed in college and need new books to keep them interested in reading.
By donating to this project, you will provide my students with high interest books that will engage them and help them continue to develop a love of reading.
