This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an eighth grade teacher, one of my greatest goals is to get teenagers to WANT to read. How? By making reading social! In my class, students form book clubs with a group of friends to help encourage each other to read.

By using book clubs as an avenue for independent reading, students become motivated to read through the connections they form with friends.

Students meet to discuss their reading with their book clubs on Fridays, which always makes for a fun way to end the week.

By donating to this project, you will help provide more high-interest, culturally relevant novels for my students to select. The more choices students have for reading, the more likely they are to find a text that truly speaks to them!
