More Band Members Equals More Fun...And Mouthpieces

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Over the course of the last three years I have grown the school's music program from non-existent to an award winning music program. The level of talent and dedication my students have shown during this time is inspiring, as there are the ones encouraging each other to push their musical abilities.
On a daily basis, I am continually amazed at the amount of dedication and passion my students show for their music classes and after school music programs I provide.
Music has brought a sense of belonging and fellowship to the students at my school. As the program continues to grow, I hope to engage more of the student population in any way I can.
My Project
In the past three years, the Marching Band program has doubled in size, along with the formation of an award winning Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo band. As we enter our fourth year of operation we face new challenges, both my students and I are ready to face head on. With the number of mouthpieces as a limitation I cannot continues to add additional members to each ensemble, thus halting our growth.
Between Jazz Band, Beginning Band, Jazz Combo band and Marching Band it is extremely important that each student has their own mouthpiece, as we currently share instruments.
The increased number of band students this year has taken its toll on our equipment. Nearly all of our mouth pieces have been at the school site since its opening in 2008. I find it extremely important to replace as many of the older mouth pieces as we can, in order to maintain a hygienic band program.
