Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are a handful of students who struggle with the academics, but excel outside during PE. Carving out PE time makes students smile and they are beginning to show the same amount of effort in the class as they show on the blacktop.

My students are from the inner city and are mostly English Language Learners from backgrounds of low income homes.

They are hard-working, respectful, self-motivated young people who are eager to learn! At our school, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members work together to create the best learning environment possible. Our school works hard to build leadership skills with an emphasis on critical thinking and college readiness for ALL students.

My Project

There are a number of Physical Education activities that I will be able to incorporate using these low impact balls. The balls that we currently have are soccer balls, basketballs, and rubber balls that all have a hard outer layer that hurts the kids when they catch and hit them. The balls that I currently ordered have a sting-free surface which will not harm the kids, are low impact, and would be very versatile for a number of outdoor activities. Having these balls will allow me to teach a number of hand-eye exercises without a fear of any of the kids getting hurt.

With obesity on the rise it is so much more important to carve out time for Physical Education.

Having time for students to get outside to get the blood pumping, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and increases basic motor skills. I want every student of mine to be exposed to different motor skills such as skipping, galloping, running, catching, and throwing. These low impact balls will provide me an opportunity to engage students in various activities and promote a healthy lifestyle.
