My Students
I work at an elementary school in San Diego. Our school is unique because 97% of our population is military families. Because of this, the majority of our population is considered low income. Our families have very little money to spend on additional supports. We are considered a Title I school, but we do not get additional support from the district, as some schools do, because the district only considers
We have an amazing PTA, who spend numerous hours working to fund raise for our school.
Our parents cannot support a foundation, so the PTA is our only means of making money for enrichment programs, such as field trips or art and music programs for our school. They are trying to do their best to make money for our kids.
My Project
I would like to get more books of my classroom library to help increase the knowledge of my students and encourage their love for reading. This will reveal the different concepts and introduce the numerous shades of culture of the world. Reading books makes students aware of the various societies and civilizations across the globe and I hope to do this for my students.

Because I have such a high number of transient students, my books have been loved and taken home "forever" with them. I see this as a good thing because hopefully my books are being read over and over. Unfortunately, my library is looking sad and I do not have enough books for my students this year.
