The students I teach come from an area that over the years has been a high poverty, high crime area. It is my goal to change that stigma and help give them the best of every opportunity that I can whether it be by providing basics, or new opportunities.
The students I teach are eager to learn, and soak up new information like sponges.
All 20 of them keep me on my toes at all parts of the day. I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything!
My Project
In the past couple of years, I have implemented what is called alternative seating into my classroom. This means that I am minimizing the use of standard chairs and bringing in other seating options to reach various learning styles and various parts of the brain. This project includes a request for balance ball seats and storage.
Research says that kids today have less core strength, which impacts academic achievement and focus in the classroom.
When students have weakened core strength, they tend to fidget more, which takes away from the focus during instructional time.
It is my goal to continue to expand this vision of alternative seating in the years to come.
