This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our fifth graders will be learning about Earth Space Science, specifically Objects in the Sky. In this unit, students will engage and learn about how the moon orbiting the Earth creates moon phases. They will analyze and interpret data by representing findings in graphical displays.

The phenomena that students will explore will be why the appearance of the moon changes as it revolves around the Earth.

For students to complete this unit, I am requesting a lamp to place in the center. The light will represent the sun. The light bulbs will be used to light up the lamp. Students will create their models by using styrofoam balls that will represent the moon. They will use flashlights to enlighten their moon around the Earth. Students then will journal what their moon phase looks like around the Earth. Batteries will be used to power up flashlights. Finally, the model about moon phases will be used as a supplementary learning STEM tool to reinforce how moon phases are created.
