This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
If you know me, you know I love teaching science. I have always told my students I want them to love learning science, but let's be honest, sometimes learning science from a lecture or notes is not particularly exciting. I want my students to remember 7th-grade science class as cooperative, interesting, and fun! I have committed to providing my students with monthly (or more) Group STEM Challenges (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities.
My students will enjoy doing hands-on activities (ex: Egg drop, paper airplane launchers, trebuchets, bridges, balloon-powered cars, and edible DNA) that spark interest, inspire creativity, require planning, promote cooperation, create memories, and let them experience the fun of science!
We have four months of school left so I'd like to fund 4-6 STEM Challenges.
In order to construct these fun contraptions, we will need things like tape, string, handkerchiefs, popsicle sticks, balloons, plastic spoons, rubberbands, and candy. I committed to doing more STEM Challenges after seeing the excitement during our last challenge. I had more engagement, discussions, planning, and teamwork to learn science than any day this school year. It was invigorating as a teacher.
