Montessori Snack Preparation

My students need appliances such as a blender, spiralizer and oven mitts for snack preparation in the classroom.

My Students

I teach in a multi-age classroom of children between the ages of 3-6. Our school is one of the few public Montessori Schools in our city. My students are very active and enjoys different hands on activities.

Snack preparation in a Montessori classroom is an internal part of my students' learning.

My students learn independence, gross and fine motor skills and coordination to name a few. This activity is a very popular choice for my students. I have given them lost of opportunity to taste and consume healthy food.

My Project

My students take pride of themselves when they are able to prepare their own snack at school. They are able to take ownership of the process and practice healthy eating habits. This kid-inspired project will entice my students to make better choices in the food selection. This learning will not only give them proper nutrition but also extend to their food choices outside of the classroom.

They are in charge of the whole process from peeling the vegetables to serving soup to peers and other teachers in the school community.

My students enjoy making their own soups every Friday. The appliances that I am asking for will be helpful for the children to be successful in preparing additional community snacks. The blender will help my students prepare their own smoothies using fresh ingredients. The spiralizer will not only improve the children's motor skills, but also give them the opportunity to make "noodles" with different kinds of roots and vegetables. The convection oven will give endless possibilities to create recipes to share in class and with others in our school community. They have expressed interest in making other treats such as bread, smoothies and noodles. To promote a healthy lifestyle, I want my students to experience making their own noodles using vegetables or blend fruits and veggies together to make a smoothie. This activity will widen their food choices.
