My Project
In our Montessori classroom, we believe that busy hands help create calm hearts.
As Maria Montessori said, “The hand, guided by the mind, brings forth the creative expression of the child.”
When children sew, they aren’t just making stitches—they’re practicing patience, focus, and creativity. Handwork gives them a gentle way to manage big feelings, build confidence, and find joy in creating something of their own. By adding sewing supplies to our classroom, we can also create a calming corner where students can retreat, take a breath, and use their hands to center themselves. Montessori reminds us, “The human hand allows the mind to reveal itself.” With your support, our children will have a beautiful way to grow both emotionally and academically through the work of their hands.
This project is requesting supplies for students to have both individual sewing projects, but also a communal group project using the embroidery stand. Students will be able to add to a group project, as well as decorate their own fabric pouch to store their hand work in progress. As a culminating work students will decorate a canvas bag to use for library trips. Materials requested include fabric, hoops, needles, thread, bags, and templates for inspiration.
