My Students
Each day I have students walk into my classroom from all walks of life and yet they all have the same thirst for knowledge and compassion. In my classroom, that is exactly what they get. These students have defeated the odds. Some encounter hardships that some people may never experience.
Music may be their only solace.
I am truly grateful when students come to me and say "Thank you for teaching me music today." My students light up my day and I hope that I do the same for them. They are a blessing.
My Project
I am so pumped to be raising money for new soprano recorders! Each year, my 3rd graders learn how to play basic soprano recorder. This past year I moved to a new school and learned that I only had half a class set. I used my own money last minute to make it a class set, but that made it tricky to do our recorder unit when I had to teach recorder to one class at a time, washing them in between. Now, each student gets to hold on to their own recorder for the year.
The recorder unit is special in that students find their voice in another unique way.
We start by learning how to make a good tone quality by blowing bubbles. We learn the notes on the staff with stations and interactive Smartboard games. This year, I am extra excited to be teaching recorder because we are doing Monster Recorders, a monster themed recorder curriculum.
My vision is to see my 3rd graders having an absolute blast learning the recorder. I see them going home with their recorders everyday to practice along with the interactive Monster Recorder website. It will then culminate in a big monster-themed recorder concert. And I will even be able to continue teaching them recorder the next year, and the year after that! Watch out because some monster recorder playing is coming your way!
