Being on a stage is exciting! It focuses attention on the actor and makes him important.
Our small school system is in a rural area where resources are strained.
We are beginning our new school year with a severely limited budget and have even gone to a four day week in order to stretch our funds. My high school drama students are bright and enthusiastic. Our theater arts class give them a chance to develop their acting talents. I am excited to be able to offer them this opportunity.
My Project
This is our second year of offering this class and last year I improvised a small stage by placing a large bookcase on its side and nailing plywood to it. After over a year of hard use, my handiwork is beginning to fail.
I have had to stop using my little stage for safety reasons. Having a stage really helps focus the student's attention and gives all class members the chance to see their classmates perform.
The acting exercises will give my students the chance to sharpen their skills and experience the the thoughts of others.
Presenting their skills on a stage emphasizes the importance of what they are doing. Drama enriches my students' lives with the opportunity to become someone other than themselves.
