it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my arts and technology college-prep high school for first generation college-bound students are ready to share their digital media, talents, and achievements with our tightly knit community. The problem is, our school lacks audio and visual equipment most schools take for granted.
The majority of our students come from families who are hoping to see their children be the first to graduate from college.
The teachers at our school are charged with the task of designing rigorous, college-prep projects that inspire the creative, technical, and critical minds of our students. This means we are always designing rigorous and relevant ways to engage our students in the process of succeeding in high school and later in college. Sharing and celebrating their work with an authentic audience is vital. Students and their families respond especially well when the form is digital and accessible.
My Project
You may have taken for granted a fully stocked auditorium with a stage, lights, microphones, and speakers. We had none of this when we founded our school 6 years ago. We have built by hand a wooden stage, and now we are hoping to add a more professional and engaging way of sharing student work with their community: speakers, microphones, and microphone stands will allow all students to be heard during exhibition nights, assemblies, college-nights, and student events. With your help we will also be mounting two monitors in the hallways that will display student work, college-related announcements, student achievements and awards, and other information related to college-going culture amongst students who need motivation and information to succeed. Currently we print this information onto fliers that are largely ignored on the walls. Large, colorful announcements in multiple languages will more effectively reach our students and their families.

You can probably guess how well students respond to audio and visual stimulation. The equipment we are requesting here will help us create a school culture that ensures all of our students make it to college and feel successful and happy while doing so.
