Building a Classroom Economy with Positive Behavior Intervention Supports

Help me give my students snacks, books, erasers, novelty pencils and sensory toys for an exciting financial literacy unit that will give students real world application to learn how to make smart money decisions.

My Project

This project blends literacy, math, social studies ,social-emotional learning, and goal setting into one powerful unit, preparing our future leaders with the tools they need to thrive! I am requesting Creative Teaching Press Financial Literacy for Kids Bulletin Board Set, a 6-book set, novelty pencils, erasers, sensory toys and snacks to build a real world experience project by creating a classroom economy. The goal of this project is to allow students to earn classroom currency for positive behavior,classroom jobs,and goal attainment. Students will be able to use that currency to buy classroom snacks and goods.

Financial literacy is important to young learners because it empowers them to make wise decisions for a lifetime.

This classroom economy will give scholars the money-sense foundation to grow as citizens, leaders, and learners.This project builds real-world knowledge and confidence in handling money, encourages teamwork and service, and connects to core 2nd grade TEKS in math and social studies and English Language Arts. Students will see themselves as earners, savers, and responsible spenders. By tying this to PBIS, students are also practicing self-regulation and positive social behavior — reinforcing a respectful, goal-oriented classroom culture.

By the end of this project , students will be able to complete a “My Money Choices” Portfolio, including:

A short-response reflection: What did I learn about money?

A budget plan where they decide how they’d spend $100 in the class store.

A math task adding/subtracting prices and calculating change to strengthen additiion and subtraction fluency.

A service reflection: What job or service did I do in our classroom economy, and how did I earn money?
