Money, Money, Money....Money!

My Students

Creative, hardworking, enthusiastic...those are just a few words to describe my students.

I teach financial literacy in one of the most diverse towns in Massachusetts.

The district that I teach in is mostly low income. They all receive free breakfast and lunch. They don't get the exposure to using money (bills and coins) that is so desperately needed.

In a quick lesson using money, they are unable to name the quarter, dime, nickel, and penny. They are also unable to name the value of each coin.

My students are eager to learn, and I am excited to watch them grow and learn.

My Project

My students need money manipulatives to support a more concrete understanding of financial literacy.

The hands-on manipulatives will help to engage my students in real-world connections.

This is my first year teaching Financial Literacy to all 3-5th graders within the district. I can use these materials year after year.

The play coins will help them with coin and bill identification. The students will practice adding money and determining which coins and bills they will need to pay for items.

The large magnet coins and bills will allow me to display each item in front of the entire class to see as they use their money kit at their chairs.
