This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you went to a store and bought something on your own? Did you have the right amount of money? Were you due to get change back? My students need to learn about using money in their every day lives.
I have a class of 20 energetic kindergarten students.
My class is composed of 8 boys and 12 girls. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area of South Los Angeles. We are considered a Title I school because 90 to 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students attend before and after school programs, where they get help with homework in a safe environment.
My Project
The books Dollars and Sense, Money Matters, The Kids Guide to Money Cents, Growing Money and Little Critter: Just Saving My Money will give my students a better understanding about money and how it's used in their everyday lives. These resources will help me to develop lessons, about money, that are engaging and of interest to my kindergarten students. They will also be able to listen to stories about money, on tape, at our listening center using the learning tables.
Your donations to this project will help my kindergarten students with basic skills of money recognition, addition, subtraction, and making change.
Life skills that will be needed as they get older.
