My Project
Our students are a curious, creative and enthusiastic group of second graders who love hands-on learning. Many of them come from low-income households, and while they bring big dreams and bright energy into the classroom everyday, they often lack access to real-world learning experiences that build lifelong skills.
This year, my teammate and I are introducing the basics of money-not just identifying coins and bills, but how to save, spend wisely and make smart financial choices.
To make these abstract concepts concrete and fun, we are requesting materials to create a classroom economy and bring money management to life.
With tools like play money, mini banks and instructional materials about savings and spending, our students will have opportunities to earn, budget and make choices with their "classroom dollars." This hands-on experience will help them understand the value of money, the difference between needs and wants, and how planning and saving can lead to rewarding goals.
These materials will support role-play, math integration, group activities, and real-life applications that go beyond worksheets and lectures. They'll help make financial literacy meaningful and memorable-setting students on the path to responsible decision-making from a young age.
More than half of students from low‑income households
