This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
- Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
I teach in an urban school in an impoverished neighborhood.
All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and many speak Spanish at home. Few of my students have adequate home libraries or access to books at home to support their growing reading skills and needs, so I want to give as many quality reading opportunities to my students as possible both inside and outside the classroom.
My Project
Two sets of leveled reading texts with comprehension questions would help bridge the gap between school and home to support my students' reading comprehension after school hours. These short, grade-appropriate texts span a range of reading levels and are rich in vocabulary and genre.
My students' parents want to help their children to become better readers, but sometimes aren't sure how to help. Each text in these packs come with cards to give parents teaching tips to help their child learn from the text. Additionally, there are comprehension-based tasks that students and parents can work on together, helping students to better understand the texts they read. These texts will reinforce reading skills we are studying in school, in a parent-friendly way that helps ensure a home-school partnership with student success at the forefront.
With your support, I can provide much-needed skills practice in a family-friendly format that helps parents how to help their child become better readers while simultaneously supporting students' reading skills.
Thank you for helping make reading meaningful and enjoyable for families!
