Pre-Kindergarten students come from a variety of backgrounds, including Bangladesh, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and of course, the United States to name a few!
Many students recently immigrated with their parents and English is their second language. They enjoy learning through play as we explore ten themes throughout the year. For many this is a first school experience which is both exciting and scary at the same time.
My Project
Distance learning at the time of the pandemic is an option many families use. Children use tablets or computers to get a basic education. Many of these children are on the computer way too much. Children need opportunities to use their hands to create and build at home! Due to financial difficulty many families incur, children don’t have the supplies needed at home to complete the fun assignments they can complete in the classroom. Children need to be able to use their hands for sensory activities. Sensory dough, sensory paint, steam activities and book making are just a few. Many parents don’t know how valuable these activities are to brain development and fine motor skills.
