Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love to create 2-dimensional works with with pencils, crayons, paint, and oil pastels but have not had the experience of creating durable, 3-dimensional sculptures with clay. This year, I want to open that space for my students and introduce them to the art of sculpture.
My students are ambitious artists in Southern California.
At our school, more than 80 percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch. We are part of a network of charter schools that is featured in the documentary, "Waiting for Superman," which comes to theaters this fall.
Our school has less funding per pupil than other Los Angeles Public Schools and often the arts has an even smaller budget than other areas of high-need within the school.
My Project
I am requesting enough air-dry clay for all of my students to use so that we can create 3-dimensional sculptures this Spring. These sculptures will help young students develop motor-skills that they need and will open their eyes to a new kind of art. My mission is to make opportunities for my students to create in as many ways as possible, and I am trying to open the doors now.
This air-dry clay is very important to fulfilling the mission of our school's fine arts program and to mastering the California State Standards.
Only donors like you can make this project a reality for my students. Please consider donating today to help students in Southern California.
