This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The sixth grade integrated, co-teaching class is comprised of thirty-four, hardworking students that are dedicated to their own academic success and to the success of the group as a whole. They come from a diverse range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, as well as academic functioning levels. The ICT class unites students with varied abilities and special needs with their general education peers in a nurturing, cooperative environment. They want to learn and they understand the value of hard work.
My Project
When we hear, imagine, play, and react emotionally to music, different networks are activated in our brains, making them more efficient. Our goal as teachers is to integrate music into classroom management and instruction. For example, in ELA, students could create playlists to demonstrate their understanding of how a character changed throughout a story; or listen to soothing music while reading independently.
Active engagement with music has a tremendous impact on brain organization and function.
Using music to set the tone of the classroom and to provide for clear transitions can reduce stress and aid in self-management. The Bluetooth speaker will help us create a musically integrated classroom for our students!
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
