Help me give my students modeling clay to creatively explore story themes and morals like empathy, kindness, and resilience through hands-on literacy learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 4th and 5th-grade students are eager learners who thrive when given the chance to connect what they read to the world around them. They light up when engaged in creative activities, especially when art and storytelling come together. This project aims to use modeling clay and sculpting materials to help students bring the themes and morals of stories to life by creating characters, scenes, and symbols.
By using hands-on materials like clay, students will strengthen their comprehension of literary themes such as empathy, perseverance, and kindness.
These materials will support not only visual and kinesthetic learners but also those who need a more tangible approach to abstract ideas. As they work, students will also have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and reflect on how these themes connect to their own lives.
Through this project, students will develop not only their creative skills but also their emotional intelligence. As they collaborate and share their sculptures, they’ll improve their communication skills and deepen their understanding of each other’s perspectives. Most importantly, this project will encourage growth, self-expression, and empathy, helping students to connect more deeply with themselves and their classmates.
To make this project a reality, I need supplies such as modeling clay, sculpting tools, and materials to create a variety of art pieces. Your support will provide my students with the tools they need to explore literature in a hands-on way, while also fostering important social and emotional growth.
This project is more than just an art project—it’s an opportunity for students to experience the power of storytelling, learn valuable life lessons, and build connections with their peers. By supporting this initiative, you’ll help ignite their curiosity and creativity, laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
