Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a wonderful group of High school kids from Central and South America. 90% of students at my school are language learners; many have recently arrived in the US and are learning English as a new language, while others are learning Spanish, French, or Japanese as a second language. We are a dual language community that works for social justice and strives to exhibit pride, poise, and perseverance.
The pandemic made it very obvious that a large portion of important learning needs to take place in the real (not virtual) world.
Our ESL class is in need of a printer. A printer would allow us to have on-demand hard copy materials in order to engage our tactile and kinesthetic learners. School is no longer providing printers to teachers. Unfortunately, the daily jams have led to more virtual work, but ESL students need lots of modified printed worksheets.
Having a printer allows our lessons to be flexible.
Also, many of my former students are stopping by after school in need of printing important documents (letter of recommendations, etc).
More than a third of students from low‑income households
