My students need this Nikon DSLR camera and Sony DSC camera in order to heighten their photography skills. We have several film cameras, but they do not keep up with modern technology.
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” - Thomas Merton
I teach 200 students at a semi-rural school in southern West Virginia.
Our school is a low socioeconomic school with almost 600 students, grades 6-8. I rotate through all of the 7th and 8th grade students in school throughout the year. Despite the large numbers, I strive to provide a well-rounded, college-level creative learning environment. A consistent goal of mine is to expose the students to fully immersive fine art projects to prepare them for the next level of Art Education. This will allow for my students to be successful in high school, college, and beyond.
Many of my students are always eager to do all of the various projects that we complete throughout the semester. They enter the classroom with such excitement. It can be easily read when they enter my classroom everyday.
My Project
These two cameras will allow my students to grow as artists. These cameras will allow my students to see their pictures as soon as they take them, instead of having to wait to develop them. This will allow their composition and skill set to increase. These two cameras will give a modern spin to our traditional photography class. This is desperately needed.
The capability of taking and producing digital photography within my classroom is an essential tool that is needed within my photography class.
The process of taking a photograph, developing, and seeing what appears is very suspenseful. However, when the photograph may not turn out like the student hoped, it can crush spirits and turn them off of the medium. These cameras will allow my students who have a hard time mastering traditional photography, a way to still participate and not feel defeated.
