Models in Real Life

Help me give my students a 3D printer and filament for the ability to study models of things that are impossible to do so in real life (i.e. atoms and molecules, planets, and ecosystems).

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Skougard's classroom raised $959

My Students

Not only are my students experiencing a brand new school, middle school, but they are going to be experiencing a brand new way of thinking in science. They are encouraged to learns more hands on and this will help them truly understand their world around them from their own experiences.

My school has students from all walks of life.

I have students who live in very wealthy homes and others who sleep in hotels because of circumstances out of their control. I am able to work with 135 students every day which makes for a lot of diversity!

We study models and the importance of them. I would like to use a 3D printer and make models for them to be able to SEE the materials we study.

My Project

We have had gaps in their learning that will desperately need to be filled. I want to show them examples that they can see and feel to make it more fulfilling.

We all know that hands-on learning is more effective for students!

I plan to print out examples of different atoms and molecules, planets, and other objects in my curriculum so that I can show them a 3D model to compare and contrast different objects.

In my curriculum, we study the differences between H2O and H2O2 and show how that can make a huge difference. I will print out the different molecules to show how 1 atom can turn water into hydrogen peroxide.

We also compare the planet sizes and they will be able to see just how small Pluto is and help them understand why it is now a dwarf planet and not a planet. I will print out the planets to scale to help the students understand our standard of scale and proportion of our Solar System. They will be able to hold it in their hands and see if with their eyes!
