My Students

My classroom is full of eager learners. A typical day in our class is a mixture of lots of learning and TONS of fun. I've been blessed with students who love school, especially math! My goal is to grow my students' love for math by helping them to get a deeper understanding of the subject.

I have 64 fifth graders that range in age from 10-11.

My students come from various cultural and economic backgrounds. Our school is in a high poverty urban area in NYC, in which many families are faced with a low income. Our school atmosphere is absolutely amazing. Students, teachers, and other faculty and staff operate as one big family. The students are eager to learn and impress their parents, teachers, principal, and community. They go above and beyond each day to make us all proud.

My Project

An easel in our classroom would truly make a world of difference! Currently I do not have a place to model if we are not using technology. A place to write down an idea or demonstrate something using an alternate strategy is often needed. An easel is mobile and can be put anywhere in the room, making it a fantastic tool for differentiating instruction.

An easel is an essential tool for creating, demonstrating, and making changes to work as we progress.

Our easel would be used to jot ideas and write our thinking during lessons and our work period. I will use this easel to model for my students while teaching, however, more importantly, this tool would be used in center activities for students to imagine, plan and create together!
