This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are natural problem-solvers who are fascinated by how life works at the microscopic level. They are always eager to go beyond memorization and dive into activities where they can build, test, and see science in action. What I love most is their curiosity — they constantly ask questions like “How does DNA actually turn into traits?” or “What happens if there’s a mistake in the code?” These are big, abstract concepts, but with the right tools, my students can explore them in meaningful, memorable ways.

The Modeling DNA to Protein Kit will allow students to walk through the full process of protein synthesis, from DNA replication to transcription and translation.

Instead of just reading about it, they will be able to physically model codons, anticodons, and amino acid chains — making the invisible world of genetics visible.

The 24-inch DNA Model will serve as a permanent classroom anchor, helping students visualize the iconic double helix structure as we study replication, mutations, and gene expression.

The PlayDNA Model Kit bundle will provide small-group sets so students can collaborate, manipulate the pieces themselves, and practice modeling real molecular processes. These kits are reusable, meaning future classes will continue to benefit from them year after year.

Together, these resources will transform my classroom into an active biology lab where students can see, touch, and build the processes that define life itself. They won’t just be learning about DNA and proteins — they’ll be experiencing science as real scientists do: through modeling, questioning, and discovery.
