My students need a way to see the teacher model writing and reading assignments. This document camera will allow all students to see a projected image of what the teacher is doing.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 60 second graders Language Arts everyday. I have each set of students for 3 hours. Our time is centered around reading wonderful literature, deep reading, and writing. We use chants and songs to remember key language skills.
We strive to close the achievement gap in our low income neighborhood and we are succeeding.
Many of our students are English language learners, so reading is even more of a challenge. This year I have 60 wonderful, energetic, creative second graders that love books and love to read.
My Project
We currently have the ability to project from our iPads. While having this technology is a wonderful blessing, it is not the most effective way to project the teacher's work. Using the iPad causes two major problems. First, if you write on an iPad, the penmanship is very messy. We want to model great penmanship. We would also like students to be able to see letters being formed. That requires seeing the hand at work. Second, iPads tend to zoom in and out when someone is writing under them. This is very distracting and often hard to follow. A document camera will allow for the teacher to model great penmanship and show the students exactly what they are expected to do. This camera can be useful is areas like annotating reading passages, writing instruction, and even art instruction.
