My project needs 25 packages of modeling clay for 150 students of biology! (about $100 total)
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Freeman's classroom raised $147
This project is fully funded
My students are 9th and 10th graders at a small public (pilot) high school in Boston. Students come from diverse urban backgrounds, and are considered high-need.
I have been working with the science team to create an inquiry based, hands-on, action packed curriculum that will reach all students. Although this is my first year as a teacher in Boston, I am passionate about connecting with students and designing creative lessons. My students are vibrant and excited about science. Many have requested experiments and laboratory activities that will engage them in the classroom. I am overwhelmed with kinesthetic learners, who want to touch and do things in order to learn. But resources are in short supply, and the school cannot provide money to reimburse teachers for supplies on a regular basis.
Modeling clay will help students see and touch concepts that are difficult to visualize-- such as human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, and body systems. It will enable me to test my students' knowledge in a way that is far removed from filling in bubbles on a standardized test.
Your assistance will help give my students a tactile and varied learning experience-- adding another dimension to the traditional textbook readings, classroom discussions, and notes prevalent in most science classrooms.
