My Students

Our elementary school library is used by transitional kindergarten through fifth-grade students every week. Each class comes to the library for a thirty-minute period during which I, their teacher-librarian provides a lesson tailored to their grade level based on state library standards and fabulous literature.

My students are amazing kids who always come to the library ready to learn.

They experience a mix of print media and technology during our library lessons. Our discussions are engaging and often entertaining! Just yesterday, a second-grade boy entered with his class and announced, "I love books!" I replied, "Me too!"

We are always in need of more books and supplies! My students cannot wait to check out new and interesting books. There are so many great authors and stories in our world, and I want my students to see what is possible through books and the many imaginative works that are being published today.

My Project

I would like to add a small mobile table (36" x 36") to the library. Having a table on wheels will allow me to position myself in various areas around the room when teaching. Currently, I have to place my notes and visuals on top of book shelves or on a table at which the students sit. I would like a small table with wheels from which I can teach and place my lessons.

In addition, the table will serve the students when they make their presentations during class time.

I know some of them will feel more comfortable having a table on which they can place their materials; or simply to stand behind.

Finally, this small table will be perfect to position the adjustable work desk that was purchased last year for distance learning. It currently sits on a student table; but since the students are returning this month, I need an alternative space for the desk. We will be able to adjust the height for each child who comes forward to present, and it will make my presentations so much easier and a lot less cumbersome!
