This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What makes my students special, is that they all come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. They all have their own stories to share within the classroom which makes my classroom unique which provides my students with a unique way of learning. My students are also excited to learn in the classroom and enjoy hands-on activities and love seeing themselves in what we learn in class.

My Project

This is my first year of teaching second grade. This year, I introduced the second graders to Mo Williem's books: Elephant and Piggie and Pigeon Series. The second graders love and enjoy reading the series because they find the series funny and relatable. Since then my students have experienced lessons using Elephant Piggie books and we have read "Waiting is Hard" and enjoyed this relatable story in class about waiting and being patient. This led students to have discussions regarding the theme about patience and waiting. Since reading this book, my students have requested to have more lessons with the Mo Williem's series. This allow my students to become engaged when learning and enjoy reading the series during independent reading. This project will support future readers within the classroom environment and hopefully have readers enjoy reading for fun.
