My Students
My kindergarten students are bright, eager, resilient souls. This year has been difficult for our newest learners - navigating a big new building, meeting new masked adults, and kept at a distance from new friends. Amidst these factors - we have built a blooming classroom family and found the joy and humor through each others' company and common goal to learn and grow - even from afar.
A connecting commonality we quickly discovered, that drew us close from our separate grid system seats - was laughter.
My students are funny, vivacious, and interested in one another. Joke telling became a daily segment in our morning meeting time - to structure what had come to life on it's own each new day, as the buzz of the students entering the room began. Comedic picture books flew off the class library shelves and favorited funny authors can be heard being name dropped on any given day, in the corner K room next to the watering hole copier machine.
My Project
Mo Books - less problems ... as the saying goes. Mo Willems has become our classroom beloved author. His books are hilarious, inspiring, and connecting. My class has found endless joy and strongly bonded through moments reading Mo Willems books.
I would love to sprinkle MO books into each of my students hands.
They have been spotlighted (projected) on my big screen, 1by1 from my personal teacher library and it is time to let each child explore these books of high interest, independently, in their own hands.
Obtaining Biggie Volume 1, by Mo Willems, for each student, will unlock reading potential and turn a spark into a flame. The students beg to have our limited selection of Piggie and Gerald books, as their own in their reading bags. There is not only begging, but rapid borrowing and trading, back and forth.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read Mo and Mo, and read books of high interest! And, as they say - a Piggie and Gerald book a day - keeps a fear of reading away! Help create MO lifelong readers - and stop me from using the pun MO one ... MO time. :)
