This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach an amazing and creative group of Title 1 students. They are so passionate about trying new things and pursing skills that will give them a fighting chance to take life into their own hands. They strive for success, despite the adversity of their situations outside of school, and want to give back to others. Most of my students have only taken photographs using a phone camera, so I would like to give them the opportunity to try using a more professional/academic tool that can aid them in discovering a passion, hobby, or potential work skill. Students will be using a camera to document important events and it give them the chance to support their classmates at events. Students will be using these photographs to build the school's yearbook to preserve memories for generations!
My Project
I am currently in the process of interviewing students for the yearbook class. The majority of my students have taken photos from their phone, but have never used a digital camera. I think that the art of digital photography will allow these students to tap into more critical thinking skills, composition development, and artistic endeavors.
This camera will provide, not only a tool to capture memories, but also an opportunity to learn skills that could lead to a career.
Students will be able to invest back in their school by preserving moments that made a difference to them and sharing them with their peers.
