Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can I make you a cup of tea? I hear those words quite often in kindergarten. The tea of course and all the food offered is fake, but it's the thought that counts.
My group of energetic five-year-olds are always happy when it's their turn to go to the Housekeeping Center.
They love playing pretend with their friends. They love making pretend meals for me and their friends. It gives them a chance to pretend to be the grown-up.
My Project
For many of these children, school is the only time they have to socialize with their friends. For many of these children, once they leave school, that's it for friends. They have to stay in because it's not always safe to go out or their families don't want to take them to play with others. The pretend food will help them not only in socializing but also to help us plan healthy meals and talk about healthy eating as a class.
With you help, we will not only help with communication skills in these children.
We will also be helping in teaching nutrition and health. I will be able to teach by showing what a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner should look like. The children in turn will go home and encourage their parents to help them make healthy food choices. So, with your help we can make a difference. We can teach them how to make a sandwich and a friend at the same time.
