Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My elementary campus is in Southwest Houston. More than 50% of the student population is Hispanic. More than 80% of the students qualify for free lunch. One of the barriers that students face when coming to learn on my campus is language. There are students from different countries and we have more than 4-5 languages spoken on our campus.

My students enjoy learning about new topics and some of the lessons they learn in elementary will follow them throughout their lifetime.

These children do not live under the best living conditions but school is the safe and fun place to be.

My Project

I am trying to get my students to change their way of thinking. Some of them don't know how to express their feelings properly. Once the students learn to identify the feelings; what it looks like, what it sounds like; and what it feels like, they will be ready to move on to cope with these feelings. We will work on changing the thinking patterns and emotional responses.

I plan to use these supplies to help as an intervention.

Students will identify multiple ways through games to manage their emotions. They will be introduced to self-talk so they can learn how to help themselves when an adult cannot intervene. The Mixed Emotions board game will help individuals and groups think about and process a significant event in their lives. The Doodle Pad Drawing Boards will be used so students can draw facial expressions and discuss their feelings.
