Do you remember what it was like when you were a child in art class? Just as you were really getting into your drawing, your pencil broke! You didn't bring any extra ones with you to school, and the pencil sharpener in class is broken again.
I am a special education art teacher following the Blueprints for the Arts.
I have 18 classes per week and am in a Title One School. Supplies are very hard to get for my art program, and students come in without a pencil. I try to be as prepared as I can, and buy a lot of pencils. My problem is that the students constantly break the point on their pencil, and need to sharpen it.
My Project
I can't let students waste time during class getting out of their seats to sharpen their pencils. My students need to experience art, and only have it for one period per week, so time is valuable. With sharpened pencils, my students can concentrate and express themselves through art, without the frustration of a broken pencil point.
Your donation toward two electric pencil sharpeners would have a huge impact on making my art program work.
Students need sharpened pencils to sketch. We all remember what it's like when our pencils broke. My special education population would really appreciate any help you could spare. Please help us to keep our pencils sharpened. Thank you for all you do!
