Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very inquisitive and love hands-on experiences. Our science books don't really give us a good view into an astronaut's life in space. What better way than to attend and participate in a simulation of the Voyage to Mars!

My students are enthusiastic 5th graders who enjoy interacting with each other.

They like working in groups collaborating and communicating with each other whether it be about literature or science. You name it - they discuss it! The school my students attend is small elementary school surrounded by single family homes. Most of these students have some sort of technology at home but its real-life experiences they crave and want!

My Project

The field trip to the Columbia Space Center will give my students hands on science lessons that will stay with them forever. The Voyage to Mars simulation will give my students the opportunity to see what it is like to be a real life astronaut. My students will be able to use math, science, problem-solving, teamwork, responsible decision-making, and communication skills, in order to successfully become both mission controller and spacecraft astronaut.

This simulation of a trip to mars will be a memory my students will have for a lifetime.

This "mission" will give my students an understanding of what a scientist or engineer might really do; something beyond what they can read in a text book. This hands on experience will provoke deep thinking and will demand their science knowledge to be put to the test.
