Mission Mental Health: 5th Graders Speak Out and Reach Out
Help me give my students books, art supplies, and supportive tools that will teach them and allow them to teach other students about the growing mental health problem in kids today and strategies that can help.
My 5th graders and I have noticed that mental health is becoming a growing concern in our elementary school. Some of them have already struggled with mental health issues themselves and have observed many of their schoolmates do as well. I want to teach my students that when we see a problem, we can take action by speaking out on the problem to raise awareness and work toward a solution.
We are on a mission to learn more about the mental health challenges students are facing so we can tackle the growing problem in our elementary school by teaching other students about it as well as offering coping strategies they can use.
The books in this project will help my students learn more about the mental health challenges many of them and their fellow elementary students have faced. They are eager to learn so they can teach others about how they can manage their mental well-being. They want to use all the donated supplies - including the weighted stuffed animals, stress balls, mindfulness activities, and art supplies - to design posters to hang around the school and create presentations to share with other classes. They hope to educate other students and let them know they aren't alone if they struggle with anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues. Please help me give my students what they need to support themselves and their fellow elementary students in their mission to tackle the growing problem of mental health in young kids.
