This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With our students' uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic came an abundance of students feeling unsafe at school. As a teacher, I see the changes in students' feelings toward being at school versus being at home. My goal is to make my classroom as comfortable as possible to give them peace and belonging as soon as they enter our room. I wish to create a space where students can feel like they can grow and learn. I am a first-year special education teacher wanting to ensure that my students want to be in my class. I want my students to know that it's okay for them. Its okay to have fears. Together we can learn and grow and set ourselves up for success. The items I chose for my classroom are to help create that space for my students.

I want my walls to be filled with affirmations and positivity.

I want my students to know that I care deeply about their well-being. I want to teach them kindness. Because of covid 19, our students are nervous, scared, and insecure. They've had to endure months of lockdowns and isolation. I want them to know, they are not alone.
