Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Interactive Book Club students love hands-on learning!
Most come from low-income families where reading and other educational materials are luxury items.
Our Interactive Book Club contains children from diverse backgrounds and circumstances who benefit from extra support to keep them motivated as they progress in their reading journey. These students are particularly dear to my heart because I have known many of them for four to five years now. This year’s selections have been chosen specifically with them in mind. When you donate to our Interactive Book Club, you are changing lives! Thank you!
My Project
This year I am launching an Interactive Book Club to help cultivate and maintain a love of reading in my students, specifically those who have graduated into second grade and beyond. To increase understanding and comprehension, we will read each story and complete a hands-on project that goes along with it.
My students need paper books with well-written, engaging stories that draw them into the plot and make them yearn to read more.
With the interests and temperaments of specific students in mind, I am requesting copies of the following books for this year’s club meetings:
1. The Chocolate Touch
2. Chocolate Fever
3. The Courage of Sarah Noble (a Newbery Honor Book)
4. The Cricket in Times Square (a Newbery Honor Book)
5. From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (a Newbery Medal Book)
I am also requesting supplies to complete a variety of extension activities that will go along with our books. The extension activities will include dramatic presentations, creating tissue paper art, and using moulds to make chocolates.
Thank you for considering funding our Interactive Book Club and helping to foster a love of reading in my students. I very much appreciate your support.
